The UN`s Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) has issued new guidance for states` implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The latest General Comment No. 20, which CESCR adopted on 25 May, clarifies the meaning and criteria for compliance with the Covenant`s Article 2.2. It defines the scope, criteria and various forms of discrimination prohibited by the Covenant, and the obligations of all states parties to respect, protect and fulfill ESC rights through policies and performance that combats prohibited discrimination.
